TThe High Commissioner of India, H.E. Mr. Ranjan Mathai met with Conservative Friends of India members at a reception in his honour on 29th April in Westminster.
Hosted by the Co-‐Chairmen of CF India, Alok Sharma MP and Ranjit Baxi, the High Commissioner briefed Members of Parliament, including Rt Hon Dominic Grieve MP, Sir Edward Garnier MP, Shailesh Vara MP, Bob Blackman MP and William Cash MP before addressing the reception.
The High Commissioner spoke on the importance and strength of the UK’s relationship with India and commended the outstanding contribution of the UK Indian diaspora of Britain in all fields of endeavour in this country.
On the Indian elections, he stated that the campaign debates have shown that there will be intense focus by the next Government on bringing economic growth back on track, whilst providing solutions to the people of India who are in need of rapid economic development and better employment prospects. As part of this, global engagement with the rest of the world will be strengthened.
The High Commissioner finished by recalling the words of India’s first Prime Minister, who said -‐ be loyal to your country of adoption, but in your heart keep India close.
