The Indian High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Ranjan Mathai, hosted a reception for over two hundred Conservative Party delegates in Birmingham at thebConservative Party Conference. The event was attended by over twenty Ministers and Members of Parliament, including the Conservative Party Chairman Grant Shapps MP, Chief Government Whip Michael Gove MP and Cabinet Ministers Nicky Morgan MP, Sajid Javid MP, Eric Pickles MP and Theresa Villiers MP.
The event was addressed by the Indian High Commissioner and the Co-Chairman of Conservative Friends of India (CF India), Alok Sharma MP and Ranjit Singh Baxi, all highlighting the work of Prime Minster David Cameron in building strong ties between Britain and the Indian sub-continent. Michael Gove made the keynote speech praising the special relationship between Britain and India. Co-Chairman of CF India, Ranjit Singh Baxi, expressed his wish on behalf of the UK Indian diaspora to have the opportunity of welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the UK.
Co-Chairman of Conservative Friends of India Alok Sharma MP said “It’s been a pleasure to work with the High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner over the last year in promoting links between Britain and India. CF India will continue to play a key role in not only connecting Indian business with British business, but also British Indians with the conservative party.”
Ranjit Singh Baxi said “It was an excellent conference where Prime Minister David Cameron led the party from the front, reinforcing the message that we are a party that means business and will continue delivering an even stronger economy, an improved NHS and a better tax system.’
